Kilimanjaro, The Marangu Hut Route
Eight days including a six-day Marangu trek, with shared huts and an additional night at Horombo.

Eight days including a six-day Marangu trek, with shared huts and an additional night at Horombo.
This mountain journey connects the route’s changing landscapes with hotel nights at the beginning and end. The complete duration shown includes the arrival and departure sequence, while the day-by-day plan identifies the actual trail stages. Compare the number of nights and walking days rather than choosing a climb only by its headline length.
The mountain team’s route briefing and current conditions guide the programme. Equipment, support, meals and transport are confirmed in the written quotation. A summit attempt is a shared objective, never a guarantee.
A hut-based route
Shared Mandara, Horombo and Kibo huts replace tented overnights.
An additional Horombo night
The proposed six-day trek includes a separate acclimatisation day.

DAY 1Mount KilimanjaroWelcome to Tanzania
+
Welcome to Tanzania

Meet your local team and transfer to your accommodation. Settle in, review the days ahead and leave the rest of the afternoon open to rest after your journey.
Keep this first day deliberately simple. Confirm the meeting point and the transfer in advance, then allow time for a journey briefing and any questions about the next morning. The amount of free time depends on the actual arrival, so optional sightseeing should be agreed only once your flight details are known. The day closes at Tulivu Kilimanjaro Retreat, with the meal basis shown in the programme.
DAY 2Mount KilimanjaroMarangu Gate to Mandara
+
Marangu Gate to Mandara

After park registration, walk through Kilimanjaro’s montane forest towards Mandara. Settle into the shared mountain huts and meet your team over dinner.
The experience changes as the route moves between forest, moorland and higher ground. Your mountain team sets the walking rhythm and the day’s stops, keeping the group together around the agreed programme. On reaching the overnight stop, there is time to organise your kit, review the next stage and rest. Camp arrangements and any hired equipment are specified in your final proposal.
DAY 3Mount KilimanjaroMoorland to Horombo
+
Moorland to Horombo

Continue above the forest into open moorland on the approach to Horombo. Keep a steady pace and enjoy the widening views as the vegetation changes.

DAY 4Mount KilimanjaroA second night at Horombo
+
A second night at Horombo

Spend an additional day based at Horombo, with a guided acclimatisation walk adapted to the group and conditions. Return to the huts for a second night.
An acclimatisation day is part of the route rather than spare time to remove from it. Follow the mountain team’s programme and discuss how you are feeling at the daily briefing. Any short walk and the return to camp or hut are guided by conditions, with the next stage reviewed before you settle in for the night.
DAY 5Mount KilimanjaroAcross the saddle to Kibo
+
Across the saddle to Kibo

Cross the high saddle towards Kibo Huts. Arrive in time for food, equipment preparation and rest before your planned early-hours summit attempt.

DAY 6Mount KilimanjaroSummit attempt and return to Horombo
+
Summit attempt and return to Horombo

Begin the summit attempt with your guides if conditions permit. After the attempt, descend via Kibo to Horombo for the night. The plan may change in response to weather and guest wellbeing.
The mountain team sets the departure time and pace for the summit attempt, with decisions guided by conditions and the wellbeing of the group. Reaching the highest point is not guaranteed. The descent is a substantial part of the same day, so keep the plan focused on the guide-led programme and the overnight camp shown below.
DAY 7Mount KilimanjaroDescend and unwind in Moshi
+
Descend and unwind in Moshi

Complete the descent with your mountain team, then transfer back to Moshi. A hot shower, a proper bed and a relaxed evening bring the mountain chapter to a close.
The descent is still an important walking day, with the pace set by the mountain team and the changing trail conditions. Complete the agreed exit arrangements before continuing to your hotel. A restful evening is a useful part of the plan rather than an afterthought to the climb. The day closes at Tulivu Kilimanjaro Retreat, with the meal basis shown in the programme.
DAY 8Mount KilimanjaroA gentle farewell
+
A gentle farewell

Enjoy breakfast before your onward transfer. Departure arrangements will be aligned with your confirmed flight and the route from your final overnight stop.
The final day is planned around a comfortable connection rather than one more rushed activity. Confirm the departure point and allow for the transfer specified in the itinerary. If you have an international flight, your specialist will check whether an additional night is the more practical option before the travel programme is finalised.

A little more about the guide price +
Indicative guide price in USD per person, based on two adults sharing. Your final quotation depends on travel dates, party size, accommodation availability, transport and confirmed inclusions. Single-room supplements, optional activities and international flights are additional unless expressly included. The itinerary and named stays are proposals, subject to availability. Mountain package costs depend on route duration, crew arrangements and confirmed park fees. Summit success is not guaranteed; comprehensive trekking insurance and equipment requirements will be discussed before booking. This six-day trek adds an acclimatisation day at Horombo; the guide price is a planning estimate for the extended programme.
How the route and daily timing work+
Your programme balances time exploring with the practical connections between overnight stops. Drive and walking times vary with the route, weather and conditions, so the final briefing confirms each day rather than relying on fixed timings shown months in advance.
Accommodation, room setup and meals+
Linked stays are shown in the day-by-day plan. Your proposal names the room categories, meal basis and any single-room or family arrangements. A substitute property is discussed if the original choice is unavailable.
Transport, luggage and flight connections+
Road transfers and any domestic flights are identified in the quotation. Check the actual baggage rules of each carrier before packing, particularly on small-aircraft connections. International flights are not assumed to be included.
