Kilimanjaro, The Lemosho Approach
A western approach to the mountain, from forest to high horizons.

Private journey
Well connected.
Wonderfully yours.
Ten days including an eight-day Lemosho trek, with time on the Shira Plateau and a southern descent.
This mountain journey connects the route’s changing landscapes with hotel nights at the beginning and end. The complete duration shown includes the arrival and departure sequence, while the day-by-day plan identifies the actual trail stages. Compare the number of nights and walking days rather than choosing a climb only by its headline length.
The mountain team’s route briefing and current conditions guide the programme. Equipment, support, meals and transport are confirmed in the written quotation. A summit attempt is a shared objective, never a guarantee.
Eight days on the mountain
A western approach across the Shira Plateau.
A varied traverse
Move from forest through moorland into alpine terrain.
Moshi on either side
A retreat stay before and after the trek anchors the journey.

DAY 1Mount KilimanjaroWelcome to Tanzania
+
Welcome to Tanzania

Meet your local team and transfer to your accommodation. Settle in, review the days ahead and leave the rest of the afternoon open to rest after your journey.
Keep this first day deliberately simple. Confirm the meeting point and the transfer in advance, then allow time for a journey briefing and any questions about the next morning. The amount of free time depends on the actual arrival, so optional sightseeing should be agreed only once your flight details are known. The day closes at Tulivu Kilimanjaro Retreat, with the meal basis shown in the programme.
DAY 2Mount KilimanjaroLemosho to the forest camp
+
Lemosho to the forest camp

Transfer from Moshi to the western side of Kilimanjaro for park formalities. Begin walking through montane forest with your guide and settle into the first mountain camp.
The experience changes as the route moves between forest, moorland and higher ground. Your mountain team sets the walking rhythm and the day’s stops, keeping the group together around the agreed programme. On reaching the overnight stop, there is time to organise your kit, review the next stage and rest. Camp arrangements and any hired equipment are specified in your final proposal.
DAY 3Mount KilimanjaroOnto the Shira Plateau
+
Onto the Shira Plateau

Leave the forest behind and walk into open moorland. The route climbs towards the Shira Plateau, with the pace set by your mountain team and the conditions on the day.

DAY 7Mount KilimanjaroTowards the summit base
+
Towards the summit base

Walk through increasingly spare alpine terrain towards Barafu. Arrive with time to organise your layers and equipment, eat and rest before the planned summit attempt.
The mountain team sets the departure time and pace for the summit attempt, with decisions guided by conditions and the wellbeing of the group. Reaching the highest point is not guaranteed. The descent is a substantial part of the same day, so keep the plan focused on the guide-led programme and the overnight camp shown below.
DAY 8Mount KilimanjaroSummit attempt and descent
+
Summit attempt and descent

Begin the summit attempt in the early hours, guided by weather, conditions and the team’s assessment. After the attempt, descend towards Mweka Camp. Reaching the summit is never guaranteed.

+
Descend and unwind in Moshi

Complete the descent with your mountain team, then transfer back to Moshi. A hot shower, a proper bed and a relaxed evening bring the mountain chapter to a close.
The descent is still an important walking day, with the pace set by the mountain team and the changing trail conditions. Complete the agreed exit arrangements before continuing to your hotel. A restful evening is a useful part of the plan rather than an afterthought to the climb. The day closes at Tulivu Kilimanjaro Retreat, with the meal basis shown in the programme.
DAY 10Mount KilimanjaroA gentle farewell
+
A gentle farewell

Enjoy breakfast before your onward transfer. Departure arrangements will be aligned with your confirmed flight and the route from your final overnight stop.
The final day is planned around a comfortable connection rather than one more rushed activity. Confirm the departure point and allow for the transfer specified in the itinerary. If you have an international flight, your specialist will check whether an additional night is the more practical option before the travel programme is finalised.

A little more about the guide price +
Indicative guide price in USD per person, based on two adults sharing. Your final quotation depends on travel dates, party size, accommodation availability, transport and confirmed inclusions. Single-room supplements, optional activities and international flights are additional unless expressly included. The itinerary and named stays are proposals, subject to availability. Mountain package costs depend on route duration, crew arrangements and confirmed park fees. Summit success is not guaranteed; comprehensive trekking insurance and equipment requirements will be discussed before booking.
How the route and daily timing work+
Your programme balances time exploring with the practical connections between overnight stops. Drive and walking times vary with the route, weather and conditions, so the final briefing confirms each day rather than relying on fixed timings shown months in advance.
Accommodation, room setup and meals+
Linked stays are shown in the day-by-day plan. Your proposal names the room categories, meal basis and any single-room or family arrangements. A substitute property is discussed if the original choice is unavailable.
Transport, luggage and flight connections+
Road transfers and any domestic flights are identified in the quotation. Check the actual baggage rules of each carrier before packing, particularly on small-aircraft connections. International flights are not assumed to be included.
