A LITTLE KNOWLEDGE. A BETTER JOURNEY.

Travel well.
Feel everything.

From deciding where to begin to the details before departure. A practical starting point for a more personal Tanzania journey.

A LITTLE CLARITY

Your guide, at a glance.

01

Start with the feeling.

Think about the days you want to have before choosing a list of places. Wildlife photography, a mountain challenge, a family adventure and time by the ocean all create different routes. A private itinerary can bring several interests together, provided the connections and the available days make sense.

The northern circuit brings well-known parks into a connected road journey. Southern and western routes offer different landscapes and may need more carefully coordinated flights or longer transfers. Zanzibar, Pemba and Mafia each have their own island rhythm.

02

The year has many good stories.

There is no single best month for every Tanzania journey. Dry-season wildlife viewing, green landscapes, a particular Serengeti migration area, a mountain route and an island extension all have different priorities.

June to October: the drier-season rhythm

This is a popular safari period. The changing availability of water influences where wildlife gathers, while accommodation in well-known areas can book well ahead. Choose camps for the places you want to explore, rather than assuming one location suits every migration month.

November to March: greener perspectives

Short rains and a greening landscape can change the feel of a safari. The southern Serengeti and Ndutu area become an important focus for migration and calving-season plans, but herd movements still follow conditions rather than a fixed calendar.

April and May: a quieter chapter

The long rains can bring lush scenery and a quieter atmosphere. Some camps close, roads can be affected and the itinerary needs to follow current operating conditions. Ask which stays and connections are practical for your dates.

03

Make the connections part of the plan.

Road travel can be an experience in its own right, but a safari driving day is not the same as a short paved-road transfer. Balance travel time with the time you want in each park and at each camp.

Domestic flights can link more distant areas and islands. They have their own schedules, baggage rules and transfer requirements, which should be confirmed for the actual booking. Allow enough margin between a remote arrival and an international departure.

Choose a stay for the way you travel.

A tented camp, a safari lodge, a city hotel and a beach retreat create different experiences. Compare the location as carefully as the room, particularly if the safari has a specific wildlife or migration focus.

Ask for the actual room category, bed setup, meal basis and included activities to be named in your proposal. Families should share children’s ages early; access requirements and room preferences should also be checked before the stay is confirmed.

05

Before the suitcase closes.

Check your passport and the entry requirements that apply to your nationality and itinerary through official sources. Tanzania’s official immigration portal is the place to confirm visa guidance and begin an eVisa application where appropriate.

Discuss personal health preparation and any travel-related medical questions with a qualified clinician. Check insurance carefully against your actual activities, including the altitude of a mountain trek where relevant. Do not assume every policy covers every activity.

Keep copies of your confirmed itinerary and contact arrangements accessible. Share dietary preferences, mobility needs and important room requests during planning, rather than waiting until arrival.

06

Be a thoughtful guest.

Follow the guide’s instructions around wildlife, keep a respectful distance and leave the landscape as you found it. Ask before photographing people and let cultural experiences be a conversation rather than a performance for the camera.

Support local makers when it fits the journey, carry reusable essentials where practical and be considerate about water and energy in remote stays. The small choices are part of travelling well.
